Wheee, an earthquake!

I was sitting in my office doing exciting filing and sorting of my travel expenses this evening, when the building started moving around quite distractingly!

It wasn't too bad, really, just a 5.6 a little farther south of me, but it's always a reminder to stock up on emergency supplies. *Resolves to rotate water storage soon*

Ack! You're the second person on my flist to report that!
Probably lots of us SF Bay Area people on IJ! The epicenter was a little to the northeast of San Jose, and I'm father north in Oakland, but I felt it quite strongly! From what I'm reading on twitter, people felt it all over the Bay Area.

I haven't heard if there's any damage -- probably the typical thing with stuff falling off supermarket shelves.
Glad to hear you're okay though!
Me too! It does get the heart pounding a bit. ;-)
Hey! I heard about that today and thought of you. The building moved?!

Ah, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like that.
Yeah, it swayed back and forth very noticeably! Although this sort of thing isn't nearly as bad now that I'm on the 4th floor instead of the 15th. I'd feel even very minor earthquakes up there.
Glad it wasn't a major shaker. My water storage came in handy a week or so ago when I had a plumbing problem. I just had the county come turn my water off so it wasn't leaking and being wasted (and most importantly, running up my bill!). I just tapped into my reserves and all was good.
Oh, that was very smart of you! And another reason to be prepared.
Yep. A lot of people don't want to bother with preparedness because they can't conceive of any huge disaster affecting them. But I've found it's highly likely that stupid neighborhood stuff (power outages, water problems, grocery truck strikes) are far more likely to inconvenience me. While I'm completely prepared for big issues like hurricanes, I've only had to dip into my reserves for smaller crap.
